A black day in a black week
Today was crap at work.
My work is undergoing a “reorganisation” and as is always the case in such drives for efficiency, they have deemed to “let people go”.
Its easy to say , and for the big corporations I dare say while trying to appear humane, its an easy and cold blooded thing to do.
The terms for the pay off while not rock bottom, don’t reflect the contribution of many long term employees (Long term is a relative statement as few have more that 10 years in- myself amongt the few. The maximum pay off you can get is a month for each year up to a max of six years.
The reorg was done in a strange way to my way of thinking though I guess its not that unusual in the great scheme of things these days. Instead of targetting specific individuals to go they changed the shape of the organisation and then told people to apply for jobs. Many of the jobs are arguably no different to those the people already held but in many cases they simply “red boxed” everyone and waited on applications. At the same time they had a levelling exercise so not only did the jobs change the grading and therefor T’s and C’s did too.
Cynical? You decide- but no one is getting a raise on the back of it thats for sure.
Whats really bad is seeing really good guys going- and I don’t mean good guys like just because they are mates or anything- I mean REALLY good guys, guys who would go out there way to help you, to see the compamy succeed, to implement changes even when they themselves had doubts.
This week I have seen a lot of good friends and colleagues go. I am gutted. Work will never be the same, oh yes they will spout the same rhetoric that everything is better and more efficient, and that some people have earned promotions out the re org- they haven’t, the earned the right not to be demoted. The rest of us slip backward but all are expected to do more, as are the “promottees” who have been braiwashed into thinking they have advanced.

Starting over
If you know me you might be aware I had a blog on msn spaces. I have ditched that now as I wasn’t keeping it up, didn’t like it much and thought it would be better to incorporate something into the halleynet web media website.
What am I gonna drone on about here- I dunno yet, stuff I suppose. Maybe some techy stuff, lighter things like music I am listening to just now, and anything else that comes along and “bugs” me in life generally.
I hope to be able to have a few laughs along the way- as long as you “get ” my somewhat non pc sense of humour.
